The MNA election ballots have been mailed out and should be arriving at your house or business soon!  Please mail them back as soon as possible or bring them to the MNA Town Hall meeting on April 2nd, 7:00 at Aquinas Cafeteria.  There are still two board seats vacant, and write-ins are allowed on the ballots.

The RPD asks that we pass along information about this phone scam:

The Treasury Inspector General for Taxpayer Administration (TIGTA) issued a warning to taxpayers to beware of phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in an effort to defraud them.

The callers who commit this fraud often:

  • Use common names and fake IRS badge numbers.
  • Know the last four digits of the victim’s Social Security Number.
  • Make caller ID information appear as if the IRS is calling.
  • Send bogus IRS e-mails to support their scam.
  • Call a second time claiming to be the police or department of motor vehicles, and the caller ID again supports their claim.

If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS asking for a payment, here’s what to do:

  • If you owe Federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
  • If you don’t owe taxes, call and report the incident to TIGTA at 800-366-4484.
  • You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov. Add “IRS Telephone Scam” to the comments in your complaint.

This is widespread and is a very sophisticated operation.

Need Neighbors’ Suggestions Regarding Open Air Drug Sales

The Maplewood Neighborhood Association has arranged for a meeting with City and Rochester Police Department staff to discuss creating a program to attack the open air drug sales along Dewey Avenue.  Other NW neighborhoods will also be invited. We want to provide *new* ideas to the City and the RPD, as existing techniques have had limited success up to now.

We are asking for ideas from you, the residents of Maplewood, to forward on to the City.   Read More →

Recently MNA members were mailed membership renewals.  Your financial support is vital to the future of the MNA; without it we could not function.  Everyday the MNA committees (Zoning/Code Enforcement, Public Safety, Infrastructure, etc.) work to improve your neighborhood.
If you have not received a renewal form you may download a copy here.   You may return it by mail to MNA, 1286 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14613 or at the MNA Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday March 3rd at 7:00 pm at the Aquinas Institute Cafeteria.
If you have any questions you may contact Enrica Fleming, Chair of the Membership Committee, at 458-3460.

Do you own a house in the Maplewood Historic District (Seneca Parkway, Lake Avenue, Lakeview Terrace or Maplewood Drive)?  If so, you probably already know about the tax credit you can claim for home repairs and improvements.  However, now there are low cost loans available for house rehab also!  Attend the seminar on February 18 at the City Training Center, by the fish pond in Maplewood Park.   These loans will be targeting Historic District homes, but houses outside the District may also qualify.  Landmark_MapleWood_Workshop_with_Map

The City of Rochester has allocated $50,000.00 per quadrant for extra Public Safety-related spending, and the residents of each quadrant get to vote on what it’s spent on.  There are four proposals for the Northwest Quadrant- Proposal #2 was submitted by the Maplewood Neighborhood Association.  Please look them over and VOTE for your favorite at this web page:

Ballots are also available at the Maplewood Public Library, City Hall and at all City Recreation Centers.
